Text to Speech in Smartnotebook using Don Johnston's Solo: Write Outloud =====Currently there is not a Text to Speech Feature in Smartnotebook (not yet!) But in the meantime you can using Write Outloud part of the Solo: Co:Writer/Write Outloud suite to help you get text read aloud from your Smartnotebook file.=====
Using the transparent background tool in Notebook to allow a program that allows switch access like Boardmaker and Notebook to be active at one time. Now switch access users can participate alongside peers in whole group instruction.
Although SMART Sync is generally used as a way of controlling student computers in a class or lab, we have found great use for it for students who use voice output devices or computers or who can't access the SMARTBoard directly. For example, if your student uses a Maestro or a VMax you can broadcast your computer and therefore your Notebook/SMARTBoard lesson to them. You can also use a features of SMART Sync called "broadcast" which broadcasts the teacher's page to the student and "pass the chalk". This is handy for students who are visually impaired as this now allows for students to use their own applications such as Zoom Text on their own devices or computers. "Pass the chalk" is also great for students who may not have a software running on their device but that the teacher wishes to "pass them the page" for them to answer from a voice output device or adapted laptop. The applications for this program are limitless. I have provided a link to a two minute tutorial to get you started. In the tutorial, when they say desktop, if you are thinking of a student with alternative access - think device or laptop. This is only one means for students with voice output devices to interact with the teacher's computer/SMARTBoard.
